Australian Flood

If you haven't joined the relief movement yet, this may be one way you might join in.

As a long arm quilter, I belong to a yahoo group called Statler Sisters.  We received this note from Wilma, one of our "siblings."

My dear Statler sisters and brothers.

As you know my little town of Carisbrook ,some 800 people was flooded in 3-5
feet of water last week .To my knowledge not one house of about 200 homes went
undamaged. Some insurance companies will not pay up either. I have been
contacted by my friend Jenny Bacon, and together we are going to try to
organise a quilt for each home. Many homes will not be habitable for months. I
am asking any of you who have some orphan blocks at home and would like to give
them a good home to send them to me at
Post Office Box 91,Carisbrook,Victoria,3464,Australia.
Our working bees will make them into sampler quilts and I will quilt them. With
gratitude and thanks

Wilma Ladiges
Deep Creek Quilting

There but for the Grace of God go I.
Of course, being quilters, this call to action did not go unanswered.  Immediately, there was a flurry of emails to get organized.  The end result is that they have established 5 points of contact here in the US to send blocks to.  That person will forward them all at once to Wilma.  They want 12 1/2" blocks (12" finished).  The details are all in this pdf:

The block mentioned as one to make is the Rail Fence Block, but they also mention orphan blocks, so it sounds like any 12" block will do.  Great place for orphan blocks!

P.S.  There's a contest for which area gets the most blocks (so send them to California.)

Happy Quilting!

  2. Thank you from a quilter in Austalia for taking part in this. I have already made some blocks for another 'block-drive' and it's lovely seeing other people taking up the challenge.
