Quilt Show Trivia

Those of you in the Utah area, come on over to the Peteetneet Quilt Show here in Payson! July 1st is the last day.

One thing we have done at the quilt show for the last few years is have a trivia game. I love reading the stories about the quilts in the show, so I write up trivia questions to highlight the stories. Those who get excited about it are the 8-12 year olds. Here are this year's questions:

1. What quilt was made from a technique taught at a demonstration last year at the Peteetneet Quilt Show?

2. What quilt hangs in a classroom?

3. What quilt was made with a great grandmother's buttons and lace?

4. Which blocks were made by a 13/14 yr old and then returned to her as a quilt by her sister in law for Christmas over 40 years later?

5. Which quilt does a little boy use as a race track for his toy cars?

6. What quilt was made using a technique called "Chicken Scratch?”

7. What quilt was made of using a mother's clothes?

8. Which quilt's fabric and pattern were picked out by a husband and made by the Amish for his wife for Christmas?

9. Which quilt was inspired by a granddaughter's toy bunny?

10. What two quilt tops did a man have quilted and entered in the quilt show this year to honor his wife?

Are you intrigued? Come in and see the fun quilts behind the stories!

Doll Quilts

I saw these doll quilts at the Moda Bake Shop and instantly fell in love with them.
Then I saw that the Temecula Quilt Co designed them! That was one of the shops I visited a couple weeks ago when I went to California with the family. How fun is that! Click on the picture or the link above for the free pattern.

The following information will tell you how nutty I am -- when I make these quilts (it may take me a while, but these are definately on my to do list) I am going to just cut the charm square in half 2 1/2" x 5" instead of 2" x 4" making the inbetween squares 2 1/2" squares and the strips 2 1/2". I am sure there was a reason to cut it down, but faster is better for me. It is very difficult for me to follow a pattern exactly. I usually have to change it in some way. That's why I write my own patterns.

Peteetneet Quilt Show

My one year old has been telling me that I have been gone a lot lately. She can't talk yet, but it is obvious that is what she is "saying."

I have been at a wonderful old school house in my town, the Peteetneet Academy, setting up for our annual quilt show.

The show opens tomorrow. There is more information online HERE.

If you are in the area, come on by. The shop hops also start tomorrow so go to the shops and swing on over. We have a great show this year. The last day is Wednesday, July 1st. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. On Thursday it is also open until 8 pm.

Aster Manor

Just quilted my Aster Manor quilt. I love that the pink and brown trend hasn't ended. I am still at the beginning of the new book so I can't show the quilt yet. You can see how luscious it is by looking at the fabric.

This piece is my favorite. I love the pinks and browns! These are real comfort colors. Can't wait to snuggle with it while I finish the binding. I can't imagine that I am the only one that feels this way. As I sit down and hand stitch the binding down, I wrap up in the quilt and savor the lucious fabrics and how fun the quilt came together.

Happy Quilting!

Summer Vacation

We decided to take the kids to Southern California last week. Fortunately I did get a chance to visit two quilt shops in the city we visited, Temecula. I didn't get to spend enough time in either shop because they were both so fun. It surprised me that reproduction prints were a big item there. Another thing I hadn't seen before was rolls of Fat Eighths sold as a bundled precut. At one shop I picked up a bundle of Cinnamon and Spice by Jo Morton of Andover Fabrics. At the other shop I picked up some reproduction coordinates to make a "California Quilt."

So what were the shops? One was the Temecula Quilt Company. It carried exclusively reproduction prints.

The other shop was Quilter's Coop in Old Town Temecula. I really wanted to go there because they carry a lot of my books. If you want to check out any of the Simply Charming books in the Temecula area, go visit Quilter's Coop. And if you have kids, stop at the fun children's museum a block or two away so they don't mind letting you browse around at the quilt shop.
