Quilt Along Mistake -- An Apology with Prizes

Oh, I really did not want to write this post.  I think it's a good idea to fess up when you've made a mistake, or when I've made a mistake that is.

Somehow when I was figuring fabric requirements, I neglected to calculate the fabric for the first border.  So we really need 3 1/2 yards of the sashing/background/border fabric.  You need this even if  you add the extra border.  This gives us 3 yards for the sashing and border and 1/2 yard for backgrounds in the blocks.

To sum up -- you need an extra yard of background fabric.

I know this is not a big deal for some of you but is a big pain for others.  I am sorry.  By way of apology, I will be adding four extra prizes to the next prize drawing.  I know this won't really help, but the prizes are appropriate.  Because we need an extra yard of background fabric, I will be giving away 4 yards -- 1 yard each for 4 people -- of possible background fabric.  Here are the ones I have.  You can tell me which one you want.

Color 1 -- Moda bella solid white:  This is true white.

Color 2 -- Moda bella solid feather:  This one looks white unless you put it next to true white.  Then you realize that it is an off-white.

Color 3 -- Moda bella solid grey:  This is a light grey.

Color 4 -- Moda bella solid etchings charcoal:  This is a dark grey.

Please accept my apology.  Thank you sisbabestitches for asking me about the background fabric so I realized my mistake now!

These prizes will be drawn from the flickr pool next week with our next regular prize drawing.

No need to apologize, no worries.
I hope you don't get any grief over this.
Appreciate all the hard work I know is involved in putting one of these together.

No Problem, even if I didn't have enough fabric, an excuse to buy more is always welcome. Thanks for the quilt along.

Thanks for doing the quilt a long. The neighborhood quilt store closed in July, so this is quite a bit of fun to do. No problem with the correction, I can adapt and just love the first block and waiting eagerly for the next one. Quick question though. I purchased 3 yards of the background/sashing fabric, from the now closed out quilt store, so I am not sure if I can find the exact match. Any hints on where another fabric would work? (I was thinking that I would introduce the new fabric for the border, and just work with my 3 yards for block backgrounds and sashings. I think that others may be in the same boat as me.
Also, thanks for the tutorials on Flickr. I just set up my account, and have really enjoyed looking a everyone elses blocks. Our group is great, and I received some great comments.
Finally, thanks for the draws. This is really fun!

Thanks for understanding!

Anonymous -- if I had 3 yards, here's what I would do. First, hope it's 42" wide instead of 40" because then you could get an extra sashing strip out of it and need less fabric. If that is the case, you can make the first border the same size as your sashing instead of a little larger and it will work just fine!

The other option is to cut the sashing a little narrower so you could have that narrow sashed border. Then add one or two other borders. I wouldn't just not have that first border at all. It needs something there.

A third option would be to introduce a new background fabric. Then you have two background fabrics. If you got a yard of that, you would even be able to use both of them in the quilt layout - and it would look good. If you go this route, make the end background similar in value (both equally light or dark).

The fourth option is to do something totally different. At the end, you will see a lot of different settings for these blocks. I love to see what everyone comes up with. That being said, I did come up with a fun layout that I am excited to try.

Hope that helps!

Went out and bought an extra yard today -- no problem. We all are so appreciative of your efforts to put this QAL together -- a few bumps in the road are to be expected!

Not a problem on my part...I already had to improvise on the very first block...adds a little spice to improvise & an excuse to delve into the stash & actually use something that has been sitting for a few years & all of a sudden it's the perfect time to use it. I think with all you do, happens to the best of us. You are totally forgiven & very much appreciated for all your hard work!
