You know a quilt along is almost here because the blog button has appeared!
Layer Cake Quilt Along
2 Nov 2010 to 3 May 2011
Starting November 2nd, every other TUESDAY, instructions for a new 12" block will be posted. All of the blocks will be made from a layer cake (10" squares) and yardage. Links to all of the blocks will be on this post, but instructions are first posted on my blog (click on the header at the top of this page).
Each block will be designed by a different person. Every two weeks there will be a guest blogger on my blog introducing himself or herself and his/her block. At the end you will have made a fun quilt
64" x 80."
Here's the information you need to get started:
Fabric Requirements:
1 Layer Cake (or 12 fat quarters)
1 1/2 yards accent fabric
1 2/3 yards outer border
4 yards backing
2/3 yards binding
Size of Quilt: 64" x 80"
FAQ:
There have already been some questions, so here's some answers. . . .
1) Will linear quarter yards work?
They should work just fine. I have told the designers that they have 10" squares of fabric to use in their designs. Some of them will have pieces that are 10" long at most. I was at first thinking this was a problem because you only have 9" of width with a linear yard, but you have 10" in the other direction.
2) What's up with the accent fabric?
The designers are not given liberty to use the accent fabric like they were with the last quilt along. They were told they could use a small portion in small amounts if needed and it couldn't be along the outer edge of the block.
The accent fabric will be used to frame each block as well as a stop border for the entire quilt. The fabrics I am using are on the blog button. I am using white as my accent fabric. Everyone should NOT choose white. Choose the fabric like you would choose a stop border. (The stop border is that first narrow border that stops your eye as you are looking at the quilt.)
3) When is the first drawing?
The first drawing will be on Tuesday, Nov 2. To be entered in this drawing comment on this post. If you know what fabric you are using, add that in. If you don't know yet, that's okay. Drawings will always be held Tuesday night after the posting of the block. Winners will be posted the following day on my blog.
4) How do I get entered into the block drawings?
You get entered into block drawings by posting your block on a flickr site. Here is the link to the flickr group:

I'm sure I have forgotten something. If you have questions, let me know. FYI, if you post anonymously, then I can't email you a response.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 214 of 214This is my first time blogging and I am not sure I am doing it right, but I would like to join in. I just posted a picture of my block. My mom got me started, she lives in florida and I live in North Carolina. We like to quilt things together long distance. It is fun!!
Looking forward to continueing with the blocks!
I'm late. I can't seem to find the link to the first block. Help please?
Thanks!
Guess it would help if I spelled my own signin name right!! (not supposed to be puertcat)
I also decided to just use my stash for my blocks, will decided each time a new block comes out what I will use.
Thanks!
Count me in!
Ok I just joined last night, and I have uploaded both blocks one and two to Flickr, using the link to the group. I don't see mine on that page, does it take a while, or did I do something wrong??? I also added a comment on my blog that I have just started. http://16muddyfeet.blogspot.com/
So I'm coming in a little late to this quilt along, but I'll catch up quick...promise :) I haven't done a quilt along before so I am really excited about this one. The two blocks posted are awesome. I have a fabric-store run scheduled for tomorrow, and a layer-cake is now on the list to pick up. :) I'll get these first two blocks sewn ASAP so I'm all caught up. Yay!
Hi!!!I'm from Italy!!!
I'm in,This is my first along quilt,I'm using Debbie Beaves FQ but I don't know what fabric accent I'm using yet.
I just posted the button on my blog!
Just posted my second block to flickr and am starting on the third. First quilt a long and loving it!
Hello! I'm joining late the fun of this quilt along. I'm using Gypsy Rose layer cake from Fig Tree Quits and have already made the first three blocks (see my blog post today). By the way, I'm living in France! Thanks for this nice project!
I'm also late... I did finish two Jelly Roll Along quilt tops which are in line for my frame once I get it set up. Moving has been pretty good but renovations are stressful. I am now thinking of what to use for this. I may use either Plaids and stripes stacks from connecting threads (I have two) OR Oasis stack with some other fabrics added as I only have one of those. It will be my birthday present to myself. I need to decide soon. :)

I'm just joining today, and this is my first attempt at a "Layer Cake" project and my first quilt-along. I'm looking forward to getting started when my fabric arrives. I've decided to use the "It's a Hoot!" Layer Cake collection. This is going to be such fun!
I guess I'm joining REALLY late! I've never done a quilt-along, so I'm raring to go! I'm using Wildflower Serenade II - it's a Kansas Troubles fabric line.
I was able to pic up some yardage from the line this morning, so I'm happy about that!
I'll post my pics soon.
Better late than never, I say! I've got some catching up to do! Yesterday I bought a 'Love is the Air' layer cake and also got my hands on some new brown crackle by moda as an accent color...gotta love moda!!
