Chocolate Moose -- or -- the brown quilt is finished!

Here it is!  What do you think?!?

I just entered it into the Mondern Quilt Guild's Monochromatic Challenge.  This pattern is actually designed by the judge.  Is that brown-nosing.  Must be -- it's a brown quilt.  Actually, I have been wanting to make the pattern, and I thought she would enjoy seeing someone make it.  I think it works against me because it would odd to vote for your own pattern I think.

I decided to name the quilt "Chocolate Moose."  Although as I look at it I almost want to call it "Eagle Eye Blind," but I don't know why except that the way the pieces come together, it reminds me of a birds eyes and beak.

It was a fun pattern.  The hexagons are large so they went together fairly painlessly.  I added another ring to the pattern in the magazine.

I am having a hard time with this quilt.  I don't know if I like it or not.

1)  At 50" x 54" and with that shape, what am I going to do with this quilt?

My walls are too small for it to be hung on my walls.  I have small children, so it isn't about to go on my floor.  It's a hexagon.  It isn't a quilt that is fun to curl up under -- even on the couch.

2)  What do you think about the solids?

I think I enjoy using solids more as an addition to prints.  Using them in this quilt was difficult, and I am not loving the results.

I would love to know what you think!

i LOVE the name.
i think a few tone on tones would give it some depth. looks flat to me. maybe that is what you aren't liking. like the pattern and colors, though. good job.

I LOVE it! It is so different for fabrics and styles I have used in the past, but this makes me WANT to use solids! I love the asymmetry mixed with symmetry. It's just perfection, IMHO. Maybe use it as a table topper?

I think it looks cool. Now the shape of it, you could always add corners to make it more square so it would be more usable. If you don't care for it, you could always donate it, or applique something on it, to make you like it more. Like maybe a Moose.

This looks so difficult! I love the 3-D effect (almost 4-D in some spots) you get when looking at the whole thing. Amazing!

As for what to do with it... if you have the right size of table, it would make a really cool table-topper. It would also look really cool on the wall, if you could squeeze it in somewhere?

I think it is very cool and I could see it hanging in an office boardroom or lobby.

Well the name definitely goes with your blog. This is a very different design and I think the browns are a good color for the design. It would look nifty hung in a hanger that lets it hang long like a coat on a hook.

I really like the colours, and the design is awesome, so different and special :o)

I am with you - I wouldn't know what to do with it either, unless I could sell it. It would look pretty on the back of a sofa, even though it wouldn't be great to curl up under.

I have never made a quilt with all solids, but I like the look of this one.

Wow! The effect of color placement is great. Seeing a project using all solids always leaves me with a cold, stark feeling for the piece. A few tonals, something a little more " natural" looking. Mother nature doesn't paint her works in exactly the same color, there's always variation. Maybe that's what is bothering you about it.

Beautiful quilt. It would make a great tablecloth for a round table.

I think it is awesome!!! Looking at your "progress" pictures from before, I couldn't see where you were going with it, but oh my, I love the result. Great job!=)

You have really out done yourself. I was going to suggest putting it on a table and it looks like someone else has made the same suggestion.

To me it looks like a hot fudge sundae, yum! I really like it and would probably use it as a table topper. I'll be rooting for you.

This quilt is awesome. It is absolutly a piece of art and needs to be displayed in a prominant place. A foyer or grand entrance. A CEO's office or something similar. It has a kaleidoscope type of effect but different to those one block wonder quilts. I think it's magnificent and would be proud to think I made it. I could certainly find a home for it!!

I reminds me of a jewish star. Is there a special name for that? I don't know, but it's the first thing I thought of. I think it's interesting, not my cuppa, but there's always something for everyone out there. I love the colors though, browns are my thing for sure.

I think you've done your usual excellent job with an unusual quilt pattern. It's not my style at all, but the cool simplicity is very elegant. Very impressive-I can see it hanging in the lobby of a large modern glass and chrome building or in the office of a young CEO. And the name is a kicker, lol!
